Many conferences, rounds, journal clubs, and special seminars take place throughout the year at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center. An emergency lecture series is scheduled starting in July for the interns. The core noontime lectures that cover all specialties and subspecialties of medicine start in September. Grand Rounds provide state-of-the-art lectures by faculty and distinguished visitors. Journal club/evidence based medicine, journal update, and morbidity and mortality conferences are held monthly. We are one of the few programs that offer a Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) lecture series and a full curriculum in CAM. We offer two very popular EKG interpretation conferences per month. An intern report is presented for first year residents, providing a unique opportunity for teaching and in-depth case discussion. A board review course is provided during the spring.

Daily inpatient morning report conferences are an excellent learning experience consisting of exotic cases as well as the bread and butter of medicine. Faculty involvement is an integral part of this experience, with subspecialists participating in teaching. Monthly ACLS training and hematopathology conferences are also scheduled as part of the inpatient morning report series. As part of the ambulatory medicine rotation, housestaff participate in daily outpatient morning report/conferences, which review practical ambulatory medicine topics.

Opportunities to participate in basic science, clinical, and health services research are available with full-time and clinical Olive View-UCLA faculty. Additionally, to streamline the process for identifying and contacting investigators conducting research at UCLA, a catalog of opportunities is maintained through a joint venture between the UCLA-CHS and UCLA-SFVP internal medicine residency training programs.
